Emtele Ltd and Helen Electricity Network Ltd signed a long-term turnkey lifecycle service agreement for secondary substation automation in 2014. The contract covered the deployment and maintenance of remote-control and measurement functionality for 200 secondary substations.
The successful cooperation, the benefits gained by Helen, and the high service level achieved led to the activation of an additional 150-substation option. The comprehensive service procured from Emtele includes remote disconnector control at secondary substations, as well as the transmission of status information, measurements and alarms to various operational systems. All equipment required for the service is included in the delivery.
With Emtele’s service, Helen Electricity Network has improved the reliability and quality of electricity distribution by expanding automation and monitoring across its network. Helen is a pioneer in secondary substation automation, which plays an increasingly important role in distribution network management as utilities seek to significantly reduce outage durations. Substation automation enables rapid fault isolation and the quick restoration of power to the majority of customers. Helen’s automation model has also received considerable international attention.
